Redeem App Store & iTunes Gift Cards and content codes

Depending on the amount of the gift card*, you might have the option to redeem it for months of Apple Music individual subscription. Learn what to do if you have an Apple Store gift card or don't know what type of gift card you have.

You can also redeem promotional content codes for specific items in the App Store, iTunes Store, or the Book Store in Apple Books.

If you're not signed in to your device with the Apple ID that you want to add credit to, follow the Redeem steps below. Learn what to do if you see an alert message or can't redeem your App Store & iTunes Gift Card or content code. 

* App Store & iTunes Gift Cards aren't available in all countries or regions. Find out if Apple ID balance from gift cards is available in your country or region.

When you try to redeem a gift card, you'll be asked for the card's redemption code. Peel or gently scratch off the label on the back of the gift card to reveal a 16-digit code that starts with an X. If your code is damaged or illegible, contact Apple Support.

Promotional content codes might not have a sticker, might not be 16 digits, and might not start with an X.

If you have an older card, the number might appear in different places. Here are some examples:

1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, open the App Store app.
2. Tap Today, then tap  or your photo in the upper-right corner.
3. Tap "Redeem Gift Card or Code," then sign in with your Apple ID. Learn what to do if you forgot your Apple ID. 
4. If you want to use the camera in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to add your gift card, tap Use Camera. Make sure to follow the onscreen instructions to capture the redemption code.
   If you're in certain countries or regions, or have an older card, you might have to enter the card manually: Tap "You can also enter your code manually," then follow the prompts.
   • If you have an App Store & iTunes Gift Card, enter the 16-digit code, which starts with X, from the back of the card.
   • If you have a promo or content code, enter the code from the back of the card.
5. Tap Done.

1. Open iTunes or the App Store.
2. In the App Store, sign in with your Apple ID, click your name or photo in the lower-left corner, then click Redeem Gift Card.
   In iTunes, choose Account > Redeem from the menu bar at the top of your computer screen or at the top of the iTunes window, then sign in with your Apple ID.
3. If you want to use the camera in your computer to redeem your gift card, click Use Camera. Make sure to follow the onscreen instructions to capture the redemption code.
   If you're in certain countries or regions, or have an older card, you might have to enter the card manually in the box under "You can also enter your code manually," then follow the prompts. Click Redeem when you're done.
   • If you have an App Store & iTunes Gift Card, enter the 16-digit code, which starts with X, from the back of the card.
   • If you have a promo or content code, enter the code from the back of the card.
